The first thing you want to do when you are looking for grains and breads is to look at the carbohydrate count on the package. Make sure you look at the serving size because this can play a big role in whether you buy a particular item or not. Do the math and figure out if the product is low-carb enough for your diet. In general, you want to buy products that are lower than 10 grams of carbs per serving. That way, if you have one serving, you aren't stretching your diet too far and still have room in the day to eat some other carbs from other foods. All foods are required to have the nutritional count on the back so just turn the bread or grains over and take a look. If you are making bread or some other grain item, you will want to buy flour that is whole wheat. Or, really cut down on the carbs and buy the Atkins low-carb flour and cooking ingredients. That way you can bake the items you want.

The next thing you should look for when buying grains and breads on the Atkins diet are products high in fiber. You may not know this, but fiber actually counts against the carbohydrates in food one to one. What this means is that if you have a piece of bread with 12 grams of carbs and 4 grams of fiber, then your net carb intake would be 8. Learn to do this math with everything you buy because it will allow you to enjoy more foods. Increasing your fiber intake is important anyway so this is a great way to focus on eating healthy grains and breads with lots of fiber.

    3

When on Atkins, you will want to avoid any bread that is made with white flour. Also, avoid breads and grains with fruit, sugar, honey or any other ingredient that might increase the carb and sugar count. Feel free to buy bread and grain products that have added wheat, nuts, seeds or cheese because these are all low-carb ingredients and perfectly acceptable to the Atkins diets.
